Are you ashamed of your website?

MARCH 5, 2022 | WEBSITE DESIGN
Don’t we all want to be proud of our websites? And of course, we always want to make a good first impression. But what if a potential clients asks for your website? Are you happy to share your link or does it make you feel nervous?

If you’re not so proud of your website, you’re not alone! I’ve heard many people say they feel bad about their website… I totally get it because I’ve been there myself…

Don’t let your website hold you back

A website that doesn’t show your current services or doesn’t reflect the value you bring to your customers is incomplete. And it does you more harm than good. You feel ashamed because of the poor quality of your website, so it can prevent you from reaching out to potential clients.

When I started as a designer, I set up my first portfolio website. I was not happy about it and felt it was missing something. For that reason I had only shared the link to that website with three people because there was no other option than sharing it with them.

However once our website is truly representing our services and values, we will happily share our website. It gives us the confidence to reach out to more people. Thus it will be a valuable asset for our business to grow!

Upgrading your website doesn’t have to be extremely difficult or super time consuming

You could start with a basic website that has only a couple of pages but that are of good quality. This will give you the confidence to reach out to more people.

Later on you can add more, like an opt-in for your newsletter, a blog, videos, an online store or whatever you feel you need. But it’s really important to first get the basics right.

Start by thinking about these 3 questions:

N

What is the one service that you want people to know you for?

Going into detail about all the different services you offer, can be very confusing. People might wonder what it is that you actually do. Instead bring clarity by demonstrating your capacity on the one service that you are truly passionate about or that you do extremely well.
N

What is your one value or the one thing in your approach that your clients truly love?

If you know what makes your current clients love you, then use that to your advantage to attract new clients. And asking your clients for testimonials that you can use on your website helps you to build authority.
N

What useful information can you provide for people who are not ready to buy from you?

Not everybody is immediately going to sign up for your services but if you’re happy to give them some useful advice or a great tip, they might just stick around.
