Should your designer fall in love with your brand?

MARCH 7, 2022 | BRANDING

So you decided it’s time to get your brand identity right. Now you’re looking for a designer to help you bring your vision to life. How do you choose a designer?

One factor you should be looking for is how the designer feels about your brand. Because, your goals if people to love your brand, isn’t it? Now if your designer isn’t totally enthusiastic about your brand, how is he or she going to design something that will make others love your brand?

Are you looking for a long term relationship with a designer that will support your vision and who works with passion to bring your brand to life? Then it’s important to make sure that he or she stands behind your values, your vision and your goals.

Branding is a long-term effort

Working on your brand is a process that takes time to do it well. It’s more than just designing a nice logo or updating your website. Planning and designing a fitting brand identity that translates your valuable services in an attractive takes more than a couple of days. It can take several weeks to do the necessary research and work out the initial concepts. Then there is the going back and forth between you and the designer to get to the final approved version.

Even after you’ve defined the look and feel of your brand, the work continues. You may need marketing messages, posters, packaging design, ideas for content creation, support for your social media, etc.

If you choose the right designer from the start, it can turn into an enjoyable and successful long-term relationship where you can rely on his expertise and passion to deliver good results every time.

As a designer, how do I apply this?

To deliver a great design, I need to use my mind and my heart. I use my mind to do the research and go through all the steps of the design process. But if my heart is not fully into it, at some point it will show… This is what might happen:
M

If I don’t love your brand

It will be hard for me to go the extra mile
M

If I’m not totally enthusiastic about your brand

I may get impatient or less understanding when you ask for yet another revision

M

If I don’t really care about your brand

I won’t give my very best advice because your brand is not my priority. So I won’t be thinking about it all the time which is why the really good ideas won’t come up.

When I take on a branding project, it’s more than just another task on my to-do list. I do it because I’m passionate about willing to work with you because our values are aligned or something else about your brand totally sparks my interest.

That way I can put my heart on it and as a result the collaboration is enjoyable for both of us. There will be mutual respect, honest communication and a dynamic that will make your resulting brand truly shine!
